Analyses and Forecasts

L.I. Devyatkina, Deputy Director of Capital Investment Management Department of JSC "Svyazinvest".
JSC "Svyazinvest": current state and development trends of telecommunication systems in Russia.
JSC "Svyazinvest" is the largest company from the viewpoint of deployment of telecommunication systems in Russia. The percentage of digitalization of primary backbone and intercity systems in the company networks amounts from 76,7 to 99,2%. The main trend of development of communication systems is associated with the transition to fiber optic cable communication lines. The share of these lines in the total data transmission networks is at least 42% as of January 1, 2006. Simultaneously a scheduled replacement (withdrawal from operation) of used copper communication cables for fiber optic cables is taking place.

A.V. Lobanov, Cand. Tech. Sc., General Director of NPP "Spetskabel".
Production state and trends of development of radiofrequency cables.
The author gives a review of the current state of radiofrequency cable production in Russia and in the CIS countries. The future trends of RF cable production development, consumption and import during the next few years are analyzed. The requirements of GOST 11326.0-78 and IEC 61196-1 are compared.

G.I. Meshchanov, Cand. Tech. Sc., General Director of JSC "VNIIKP".
Changes in the global production of communication cables and in the CIS countries. The forecasts prove to be correct.
Statistics on telecommunication cable consumption and production in the world and in the CIS countries is presented. It is shown that since 2000 there has been a global reduction trend in the consumption of external copper telecom cables. In 2005 the consumption decreased by 31,6% as compared to that of 2000. As for internal telecom/data cables, a rise in their production has been observed after a slight decline in the consumption in 2001-2003 (a 97,5% growth in 2005 against 2000). Following the crisis period (2002-2004) the year of 2005 appeared to be quite favorable for global production of fiber optic cables, their consumption in 2005 increased by 21% as compared to 2004.
It is shown that the forecast for the external copper telecom cable production in the CIS countries proved to be wrong. It had been expected that the consumption would become flat and start to fall gradually after a stable growth during the last five years. However in 2005 there was a drastic drop in the consumption. The setback in production in the CIS countries was 35% against the 2004 level, and in Russia it was as low as 44%. The growth rate of fiber optic cable production slowed down and in 2005 the growth was as low as 15%. At the same time LAN cable production follows an upward trend.
